Todays (well yesterdays!) class

I found todays class actually very interesting, but i also love history so that could be why. The part i found the most interesting was about surrealism, mostly because i've studied those artists before, but never their roots. I visited the Dali museum in Spain, Teatre-Museu ,which is actually a giant piece of surrealist art in itself...
Incorporating some of Dali's most famous images, such as the egg. In this museum i was particularly struck by the size of some of the work. Dali is actually buried in the crypt of the museum, because it was built in his home town! I was most struck by the famous piece of the furniture. that when looked at at the right angle creates a face meant to look like Mae West..
There was many great rooms, and great exhibits here, especially one that was set in an outside courtyard. Also many people, as i was also, were struck by the giant ceiling painting present in the museum. The museum contains rooms and painted walls designed by Dali especially for this Museum. I found it brought a whole new level and meaning to surrealism to have it in the whole building all around you.
Next challenge is to try and read this Manifesto on surrealism...wish me luck!

Image for my grid art

So I searched around a lot, and restarted a few times with different ideas, but I was looking to really use a lot of colours, and suddenly as I was sat endlessly searching the Internet I looked up and saw my muse poster on my wall! I thought this image would be challenging and also perfect because it was colourful but with a big contract between the background! So here is the original image.....

I'm officially back this time!

I've had quite the ordeal with technology this weekend...i dropped my laptop and broke it, and i got my phone stolen! And on top of that i have an ipad that seems to crash every time i open this to post! but Finally...here are the picture of my completed Grid art! I'm really happy with how it turned out, its what i was hoping for, and i feel like especially from far away you can really tell what it is. I made it in what were meant to be 4 20x20 squares. Its a little bit of an odd shape however, 41x40, because i was tired and apparently cant count well and made one of the squares one row too big, and i also made one one row too small! Adding on one single row was definitely a challenge! It really did give me an appreciation for the idea of a picture broken down into pixels, and what a computer has to reproduce. I've uploaded a couple of pictures of the process..in the last one you can see where i failed at math! and then the final piece!

Perler. Beads. EVERYWHERE

My beads are all finally done! This meant it was time to tidy away all the beads.. I picked up my giant tub to put it away, the lid wasn't on properly. There are now about 9,000 beads on my floor. I actually didn't grow frustrated with my material until now. Now I want to melt all the perler beads in the world so no one ever has to use them, or drop them, ever again

Halloween Horror Nights!

So as i said i just spent the last weekend in Universal Studios, and i went to Halloween Horror Nights last night! I was wondering around (terrified) when i suddenly realised i was literally in a giant theater production! It was an extreme version of the types of entertainment we covered in class where they walk around and interact with the audience. Every single thing was taken care of, from the images subtly projected in the fog, to the hundreds of carefully constructed costumes, not to mention the makeup. Not only was the production in the amazingly planned, absolutely terrifying houses, but it extended to around the park. I was chased by 2 men with chainsaws! It was interesting to see how it had progressed extremely from the show we talked about where the audience interacted and passed letters etc. I was truly amazed at the level of staging and production that went on at the whole event, and i actually felt like i was able to appreciate this, even if only a little bit, for the first time!

Where have I even been?!

So i've been the worst blogger in the world recently, i feel the need to apologize! its probably been 2 of the busiest weeks of my life! For one i had a migraine for 3 days, ouch. But mostly, my family are here!! It was my 21st birthday on the 6th, and they flew out for that, my parents my brother and my brothers friend! We spent the first weekend in disney, and ive just come back from a weekend in Universal! So basically everything in between has been non stop studying for me! But i'm in the land of everyday life now!
